Sexual health is an important part of overall health. It means the absence of disease and infections but also covers well-being, the ability to control fertility and to have children and the ability to enjoy fulfilling relationships free from discrimination.

Contraception

Our doctors and nurses hold Family Planning Certificates and can advise on, and prescribe, whichever method of contraception works best for you.

We offer a full range of contraceptive services including:

  • Prescription of the contraceptive pill or the contraceptive patch
  • Emergency contraception
  • Mirena Coil insertion and removal
  • Kyleena insertion and removal
  • Copper Coil insertion and removal
  • Implanon insertion and removal
  • Counselling and referral for vasectomy and tubal ligation

If you’re unsure which contraceptive method will work best for you, feel free to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors to discuss your options.

Preconceptual and Fertility Advice

We offer:

  • Pre-conceptual advice
  • First line tests and advice for those having trouble conceiving
  • Counselling for unplanned pregnancy

If you are sexually active, it’s very important to be regularly screened for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Children’s Health

All of the doctors in our surgeries have a wealth of experience caring for children and advising parents in a primary care setting.

Childhood Vaccination

Childhood immunisations are available free of charge at Newtown and Monksland Medical Centres.

The national immunisation website contains useful information for parents about all vaccinations included in the schedule.
