Seasonal Flu Vaccination
What is the flu?
Flu is an acute respiratory illness caused by infection with an influenza virus.
Recovery usually takes 2-7 days, but illness can be more severe in the elderly or those with chronic respiratory diseases like cystic fibrosis or asthma, diabetes, or chronic heart, liver and kidney diseases.
Symptoms of influenza include fever, sore throat, dry cough, body aches, headache, and sometimes nausea or vomiting.
Who should be vaccinated against the flu?
We strongly recommend annual vaccination if you are:
- Over 65
- Pregnant
- An adult or child (6 months +) with a chronic disease, for example, diabetes, liver disease, asthma, heart disease
- A child or teen undergoing long-term aspirin therapy
- Immunosuppressed
- A resident of a nursing home
- Healthcare staff
- Someone who’s had their spleen removed
- A carer of those in at-risk groups, or those living with people in an at-risk group
- In regular contact with pigs, poultry or water fowl
If you’re a member of one of these listed groups, or a child aged 2-17, your flu vaccine will be free of charge.

We offer a full range of vaccines for international travel. Some might need to be ordered, so contact us 4-6 weeks before you travel to make sure they’re available when you need them.
Pneumococcal Vaccination
What is Pneumococcus?
Pneumococcus is a bacterium (germ) which can cause infections like pneumonia, meningitis and pneumonia (occurring in about 1 in 1,000 adults per year).
Who should be vaccinated?
Young children, older people, and several other groups have a higher chance of developing a pneumococcal infection. We strongly recommend vaccination for:
- People aged over 65
- Children over 2 months
- Adults and children over 2 months old with a chronic disease
- People who have had their spleen removed
- Immunosuppressed people
- Residents of nursing homes
- Smokers and alcoholics
Is the vaccine free of charge?
There is no charge for:
- Patients aged over 65
- High risk patients (patients with chronic disease, immunosuppressed patients or those who have had their spleen removed) who have a medical card
A charge of 25 euro applies to:
- High risk patients who do not have a medical card
- Carers (of high risk patients) who do not have a medical card
A charge of 30 euro applies to All other patient including medical card holders, who do not fall into the above categories.
HPV
Cervical Cancer Vaccination
We offer Gardasil, a HPV vaccination. Please make an appointment with us to discuss further.
The charge for this vaccination is:
- Initial doctor’s visit: €60
- Nurses’ visits: €35 each x 3
- The doctor will give you a prescription which you will need to fill at a pharmacy in advance of the nurse’s visit.
